In today’s time, astrologically ascertaining one’s profession has become a very difficult task as resources for earning money are increasing by each passing day. Besides that, a native can be engaged in more than one type of professions and there can be more than one source of income, however, an astrologer is required to find the main source of earning. We need to evolve some snap-shot techniques that would point to a person’s main profession with certainty.
If we analyse the traits required for a medical profession, the roles of almost all planets have some say. However, in classical texts, the planet Sun and 12th house that signify hospitals have been considered as the main factors responsible for the medical profession. Ashwini Nakshtra is ruled by Ketu and its Deity is Ashwini Kumars. As per Hindu Mythology, Ashwini Kumars are Known as the Doctor of Gods. So, Sun, its sign Leo, 5th house, 12th house, the sign Pisces, its lord Jupiter and the planet Ketu play a vital role in bringing a person into this profession.
In vedic astrology, 2nd house, 10th house, their lords and the planet Saturn (karaka for one’s profession) are main indicators of profession. Besides, Lagna, that denotes physical and mental aptitude and inclination toward profession and other things is again important.
Thus, inter-connection between 1st, 2nd and 10th house or their lords and of the planet Saturn with the planets Sun or Jupiter or Ketu, or with the houses 5th or 12th, or with signs Leo or Pisces is the first requirement in the birth chart that should be fulfilled for a native to adopt this profession. Influence of other planets and signs on these three houses or their lords further refine the branch or specialization and act as add-ons, like influence of Mars is needed for surgeons, Moon for gynaecology and nursing, Mercury for general medicines, Venus for pathology and so on. 6th house that denotes short term diseases and 8th house that denote long term diseases are in sync with the medical profession, so connection of 1st, 2nd and 10th or their lords and of Saturn with Virgo, Scorpio, 6th house and 8th house play a vital role. In Hindu classics, Venus is Known to possess the Knowledge of ”Sanjeevani Vidya”, means the knowledge to cure a dead person. So, Venus also has a Role to play. Strong Sun, Jupiter, Venus, Moon and favourable position of Ketu enhance the prospects for the medical profession.
Now let us try to understand these concepts on birth charts of some of the practising doctors.
Birth Chart 1:
Jupiter itself is the lord of the 10th house and is disposed of in the 5th house. Lagna and Lagna lord, both are aspected by Jupiter. The 2nd lord Moon is in conjunction with Jupiter in 5th house. Saturn is aspected by Ketu from 6th house. Thus Lagna, 2nd, 10th and Saturn, all are influenced by the significators of the medical profession.
Birth Chart 2:
The 10th house is aspected by Ketu and the 12th lord Mars. The 10th lord Mercury is placed in Pisces in conjunction with Ketu and is aspected by Jupiter from the 12th house. The 2nd house and its lord Saturn, both are aspected by Mars, 12th lord. Lagna lord Jupiter is placed in the 12th house in Scorpio and Lagna is aspected by 12th lord Mars. So, Lagna, 2nd house, 10th house and Saturn all are influenced by the significators. Again Sun is exalted in 5th house and Venus and Moon are in their own signs in 6th and 8th houses respectively. It may be noted that though Mercury is debilitated but is aspecting its own house and is exalted in Navamsha.
Birth Chart 3:
The 10th house is aspected by Sun and Ketu. 10th house lord Mercury is in conjunction with Sun and is aspected by exalted Jupiter and 5th and 12th lord Mars. The 2nd house is aspected by Jupiter and Ketu. 2nd house lord Saturn is placed in 12th house and is aspected by Jupiter from 8th house and by Ketu from 6th house. Jupiter itself becomes the lord of lagna and the 5th and 12th lord Mars is placed in it. It may be noted that Jupiter is exalted in the 8th house and in its own sign in Navamsha. Thus all the houses related to profession are connected with the indicators of the medical profession.
